Herbert Hoover was known as the "Great Humanitarian" due to the fact that he saved over 10 million lives during World War I as he led the efforts to send food supplies to a devastated Europe.  Before the Great Depression hit, he repeatedly warned of the speculative nature of the stock market at that time.  No one paid heed to his warnings and the collapse of the stock market plunged the country into economic chaos.  Despite his best efforts, he could not regain his popularity due to the long bread lines and lost re-election to Franklin Roosevelt in 1928.

Among his other works as a painter is his magnificent work on St. Peter's Basilica. The Catholic Church called him out of retirement to assist them with finishing the building. Michelangelo worked tirelessly for the next 14 years to complete the project until his death at 88, which, for the time, was more than twice the average male lifespan.

Michelangelo was a force of nature in every way, and his influence is still felt to this day.
